| This carving features a Kotiate on a base.
This was carved for a client as a wedding gift. The Kaitiaki upon the base represents Rongo (the guardian of love).
The body is in the form of the ocean which symbolizes the journey of love. The Kotiate features the husband on one side and the wife upon the other. Their marriage vows swirl down the blades to make one head or being at the end of the Kotiate.
In my teachings marriage vows are said to God not to whom are getting married. After this ceremony God then looks at them as one being.
The message of this Kotiate being hold strong to love. Do not waiver in the vows that were made to God. |
