M01802 - Jade/Greenstone Carving Rei Puta - Kokopu Jade
80mm Long 30mm Wide (Widest part). One off. Matt finish. High quality carving from Nephrite Jade. Wax cord black handplaited with slip knots included. The Rei Puta is the name given to a carving either from a whale tooth or resembling the whale tooth in form. This pendant is carved from Kokopu Jade but in the Rei Puta design. Kokopu (speckled trout) is the Maori name for the New Zealand native trout. The spots and lines on this rare and light coloured type of pounamu resemble the pattern of this trout and is therefore named after it: Kokopu. Symbolism : showing the power, prestige and mana of the wearer and the symbol also gives protection to the wearer. This form also represents peace, tranquility, spirituality, family as well as regrowth or new beginnings, journeys.
