|This is a commissioned wall piece. It features Tangaroa in the form of a manaia (Guardian angel).
The kaitiaki at each side represent Aotearoa and Rarotonga.
The client who purchased this piece was of Rarotongan descent. He now now lives in Aotearoa and he wanted a piece that reminds him of his home. In this carving Tangaroa is the link between Rarotonga and Aotearoa.
Tangaroa is also looked upon by the Rarotongan culture as the highest atua. At the bottom of the carving Papatuanuku (Mother Earth) is placed.
