|Paua Wairua Ngati Tati - M04145|
|original painting, acryl and mixed media on canvas, size: 760 mm x 305 mm
This painting celebrates the paua shell and its visual qualities that have been interwoven in Maori art, crafts and mythology for the bulk of the peoples history in New Zealand. Paua also appeals to that small part of me that relates to my Ngati Kahungunu tribal ties. This painting was inspired by the friendship and trust that developed between myself and my Agent for Europe Jolande Quispel. Ngati Tati, means descendant from (the) Dutch. Jolandes origins are in the Netherlands, yet she has a deep sympathy for the culture and spirit of the Maori. This has further widened my world view.
