The following words are depicted, carved into the Maihi. They acknowledge the role of our kuia (grandmother) past and present. The walls of our whare reach beyond the sacred maunga (mountain) to touch the dreams of connected bloodlines, kuia past karanga (relative) vs. home. Our whaia, our kuia are the pou, the spring of chiefs and warriors. The manaaki (hospitality), the aroha (love). The maihi are open arms to a warm bosom, wisdom of ages and enduring strength. Mother to daughter, mother to daughter, mother to son.
