The pattern in the prints Hononga 1, 2 and 3 is called Hononga. It represents the coming together of separate entities or environments and the life that is created from that union. In this painting it is used to represent the area in which the sea and earth meet and the unique and diverse life that can be found here.
Living in the far north of our country I can never be far from the coast and my wonder is heightened with each visit. Life and beauty are often overlooked in our daily routine but I am fascinated by just one footprint left in the sand. Looking closely you can see many things in the one footprint even whilst it is being washed away by the sea. The seabirds I am most envious of for they are of the sky, the sea and the land. Envious of their freedom, but saddened for their future. The feather represents the birds and their connection to all.
