Theresa Reihana

Theresa Reihana I am very proud to present to you the beautiful art of Maori artist Theresa Reihana.
I am also proud that I may act as her agent for Europe.
In July 2007 I visited her in her home and workshop deep in the mountains of the Far North of New Zealands North Island in a beautiful area in the midst of Ponga (silver ferns) and other native trees.
We had a very inspirational talk and she also told me so much about Maori legends and customs. Looking at her art from so up close was very emotional for me because I have admired her art for so long already from a long distance.

Here is her profile in her own words:

My Tribe is Ngati Hine
My Mountain is Motatau
My River is Waiomio
My Tribal Gathering Place is Miria
The House of my Ancestors is Te Rapunga
My Chief and Ancestor is Kawiti
My Home is within the boundaries of Ngati Kahu in the Far North.
My name is Theresa Reihana

My partner Bryce and myself have six children and together we live inland from the wonderful beaches of Taitokerau. I don't lack for inspiration; its finding the time to paint the beauty of it all.
I draw my strength from my taha Maori and as I learn more about where I come from and my tupuna( ancestors) I feel more compelled to live my life as they would have me.
My Belief is that we are all one, and live our lives for our grandchildren and descendants to come. I also believe that my skill as an artist is a gift , and as such my choices are important as to the path I take in life and the content of my work.
I hope you enjoy viewing my work.

Kia ora mai
Theresa

Theresa's paintings have become sought after internationally for their unique style and content. Although the original paintings have been her main emphasis, she also participates in other areas including wananga or community teaching programmes, poetry , stories, murals, book illustrations, painted rocks and baskets.
Theresa was given the Maori made Toi iho mark for illustration last year which is a national mark of artistic excellence.

Her work reflects her cultural heritage and association with the natural elements.
She often combines realistic features with contemporary to portray the present with spiritual aspects or those of the past.
She has participated in the decorating of Te Poho o Ngati Kahu Whare Whakairo (Carved Meeting House ) in Peria with the Kowhaiwhai panels and represented Maori art internationally in Italy and Australia and has had numerous exhibitions in New Zealand.

We are very proud to be able to represent her artworks in Europe and that she wanted to participate in my Hilton exhibition.
She even let me use the image of her beautiful painting MATARIKI for the poster of my MAORI ART exhibition.
Underneath you will find some of the limited editions prints from the original paintings by Theresa Reihana.
Theresa has produced a range of high quality reproduction prints.
All prints are signed by the artist and printed on 310gsm German etching paper using long life inks. Each print comes with an authenticity certificate of edition number, quality guarantee and description of the artwork.
